Two things happened on Aug. 31 along Colleyville's commercial spine. Rio Mambo Tex Mex y Mas, open at 5150 SH 121 since 2005, closed for good. The same day, Smoothie King opened at 5615 Colleyville Blvd.
That pairing sums up the season. Seven weeks later, almost every business that has opened or is about to open along Colleyville Boulevard serves the morning, the after-school hours or the drive home. Only one new arrival is a sit-down dinner restaurant, and it hasn't opened yet. For now, Colleyville's free city events are filling more fall evenings than any new dining room.
A dinner fixture closed for reasons outside Colleyville
Rio Mambo did not close because the town lost interest in fajitas and enchiladas. Community Impact reported that the restaurant was first locked out Aug. 27. It reopened briefly after negotiations, then was locked out again Aug. 31. According to the landlord, the trouble traced back to financial struggles at Xperience Restaurant Group, the California-based company that bought Rio Mambo in 2023.
The Colleyville closure was part of a chainwide collapse. The same report says the Burleson, Weatherford and Fort Worth locations have also closed.
So a family dinner spot with a 21-year run in town left because of decisions made far from Colleyville. Most of what opened along the boulevard after it serves a different part of the day.
The 5600 block is filling in for daytime
Look at the addresses together. Three of the fall's arrivals sit within a few doors of each other, and all three are built around daytime traffic.
Smoothie King, 5615 Colleyville Blvd., Ste. 140. Open since Aug. 31, with a grand opening Sept. 26. Community Impact's opening report notes the menu goes past smoothies to protein flatbreads, chicken bites and avocado toast. Co-owner Joy Patel said the smoothies use non-GMO ingredients and clean blends. Hours and online ordering are on the store's location page.
Little Diggers, 5600 Colleyville Blvd., Ste. J. An indoor play space with more than 1,200 square feet of sandbox for children 7 and under. It has hundreds of construction-themed toys and two birthday party rooms, each with its own sandbox. Co-owner Brooklyn Ogburn told Community Impact, "As local families and entrepreneurs, we wanted to bring something family focused to our communities." It was slated to open in October. As of mid-October, the company's site still listed Colleyville as coming soon.
Lean Kitchen, 5604 Colleyville Blvd. A prepared-meal shop with chicken, beef, turkey and seafood dishes, plus breakfast items, snacks, drinks and wellness products. The menu rotates monthly, and you can order ahead for pickup or grab something off the shelf. Community Impact reported a late 2026 opening. In early October, Lean Kitchen's Colleyville page still showed ordering as coming soon.
Put together, that's a smoothie stop, a toddler play space and a weeknight meal shortcut, all within a short walk of each other. It's a stretch built for errands.
Up and down the boulevard, the pattern holds
The fall's other new businesses follow the same pattern.
| Business | Address | What it is | Status as of mid-October |
|---|---|---|---|
| NeuroSync Diagnostics | 6225 Colleyville Blvd., Ste. 125 | Ambulatory EEG monitoring, a sister business to A&B Neurology | Opened Sept. 25 |
| Smoothie King | 5615 Colleyville Blvd., Ste. 140 | Smoothies, flatbreads, light bites | Opened Aug. 31 |
| Lean Kitchen | 5604 Colleyville Blvd. | Prepared meals, grab-and-go | Late 2026 target |
| Little Diggers | 5600 Colleyville Blvd., Ste. J | Indoor sandbox and party rooms | Targeted October, listed as coming soon |
| Tick Tock Taco | 4605 Colleyville Blvd. | Fast-casual fusion tacos with a drive-thru | "Coming Late October 2026" |
| Atlas & Orion Creative Exchange | 4121 Colleyville Blvd., Ste. 2 | Expanded retail and workshop space | Larger space opened in September |
| Lucile's | 5204 Colleyville Blvd., The Village | Sit-down bistro | Renovation slated to finish late September |
Tick Tock Taco is the closest thing to a new dinner option on the list, and even it is designed for speed. Co-owner and operator Anum Khan described the menu to Community Impact as "globally inspired" fusion tacos: hot teriyaki chicken, carne asada, beef bulgogi and firecracker shrimp. The tacos use halal and organic ingredients, and churros come from Churro on Top. The Colleyville location will have a drive-thru.
It will be the brand's second location. The first is in Fairview at 201 Town Pl., and the Tick Tock Taco site lists Colleyville as "Coming Late October 2026." That puts the opening in the next week or two for anyone reading this on publication day. The company's homepage also lists Korean BBQ, Bang Bang Shrimp, birria and brisket.
Atlas & Orion Creative Exchange is the one arrival built around lingering. It already operated in Colleyville and expanded into a larger space at 4121 Colleyville Blvd., adding retail and workshop room. Community Impact covered the expansion on Oct. 5.
The one dinner table on the way
Lucile's is the arrival that would bring sit-down dinner back into the picture. The Fort Worth restaurant first announced its expansion in spring, and CultureMap Fort Worth covered the news Mar. 20.
The second location is going into the former Zafiros Mexican Grill Y Catina at 5204 Colleyville Blvd. in The Village. Community Impact reported a renovation budget of about $275,000, based on a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. City Council approved special use permits for parking and alcohol sales June 16. The menu runs to chicken-fried steak, fried butterflied shrimp, a lobster roll, soups and salads.
The NE Tarrant Record reported in August that the state filing listed a construction completion date of Sept. 25, with the restaurant aiming to open by late September. That August report is the latest timeline in local coverage. Until Lucile's opens its doors, the boulevard's new dinner capacity is mostly a drive-thru and a meal-prep cooler.
For now, the city is covering the evenings
With new restaurants still on the way and the Oct. 17 Harvest Festival now past, Colleyville's two remaining fall events offer the most structured nights out on the calendar. Like almost every city event, both are free.
Haunted Trails, Thursday, Oct. 29. The city's event page says Colleyville Nature Center opens at 6:30 p.m. with food trucks, a DJ and treats, and the haunted walk runs 7 to 8:30 p.m. This year's version is different. The city says it "will be more trick than treat," aimed at an older crowd, and recommended for pre-teens and up. The setting is the Colleyville Nature Center at 101 Mill Wood Dr., a 46-acre refuge with nine ponds and 3.5 miles of multi-use trails.
Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration, Saturday, Nov. 21. The event runs 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Heroes Park at City Hall, 100 Main St. According to the city's Christmas page, Santa and Mayor Lindamood arrive at 5:45 p.m., the tree lighting follows, and Santa is bringing reindeer. The evening also includes:
- Balloon artists and photos with Santa
- Food trucks and choir performances
- A letter-to-Santa mailbox
- Jingle Bell Junction, a Trunk-or-Treat run by local businesses
Jingle Bell Junction is where the boulevard and the calendar meet, since local businesses set up at the city's biggest holiday night. Organizations that want a spot in the indoor decorated-tree display must apply by Nov. 2, and winners will be announced at the Nov. 21 event. Choir performers and a community movie screening are still marked as to be determined.
Between now and that tree lighting, watch three addresses. Tick Tock Taco at 4605 Colleyville Blvd. is due in late October. Little Diggers at 5600 Colleyville Blvd. had an October target. Lucile's at 5204 Colleyville Blvd. had its construction scheduled to wrap Sept. 25.
I follow these openings and closings closely because they shape the everyday Colleyville my clients live in. If you'd like to talk about what's changing near your street, or just compare notes on the boulevard this fall, Julie Gray would love to hear from you. Let's Connect.
